What Is Online Entrepreneurship?

what is online entrepreneurshipWhat is online entrepreneurship? Online Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching, marketing and running a new business on the internet. For more information check out this online entrepreneurship training.

An Intelligent Office study reported that 65% of employees would rather be entrepreneurs than work for someone else. I know I was one of them! In fact, I recently took a local part-time job in an effort to trade some time for money (it was a miserable decision).

In fact, Entrepreneurship is now a popular college major, with a focus on studying new venture creation.

All the time I have been on this journey of online entrepreneurship for quite some time but found it hard to stay consistent. As a result, I did something that I didn’t love instead of persevering in what I did love to do. The truth is when we don’t see results right away we allow our determination to dwindle instead of remaining steadfast.

In online entrepreneurship you have to persevere in order to experience true success. So in an effort to bring meaning to the term “online entrepreneurship”, I have described it’s definition below.

What Exactly Is Online Entrepreneurship?

Online Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching, marketing and running a new business on the internet. It is the activity of setting up a legitimate online business or businesses and taking on the financial risks in the expectation of profit.

These kind of businesses are initially a small business within a niche market and the people who create these kinds of businesses are called online entrepreneurs.

Online Entrepreneurship is both the study of how new online businesses and techniques that are created as well as the actual process of starting a new online business or technique– the term is used interchangeably.

What Is An Online Entrepreneur?

An Online Entrepreneur is someone who has an idea and who works to create a product or service; or use other people products or services that people will buy, by building an organization for legal purposes to support those sales.

An online entrepreneur can take any idea, whether it be a product and/or service, and have the skill set, will, and courage to take extreme risk to do whatever it takes to turn that concept into reality and not only bring it to market but make it a viable product and/or service that people want or need, using the internet as the moving vehicle.

What Drives Online Entrepreneurship?

Online Entrepreneurship is a complicated term that’s often defined simply as running your own business online (the internet). But there’s a difference between an “online business owner” and an “online entrepreneur,” and although one can be both, what distinguishes online entrepreneurship is a person’s attitude

Online Entrepreneurship is much broader than the creation of a new business venture online. At its core, it is a mindset – a way of thinking and acting. It is about imagining new ways to solve problems and create value and using the internet as your platform.

An online entrepreneur possesses an interior fuel and stamina that drives their actions. Passion is the real drive. This superior energy helps to overtake and surpass the different challenges, and it injects strength to continue pursuing goals different
challenges, and it injects strength to continue pursuing goals when
difficulties arise.

With an estimated 50% of new businesses failing in the first five years, online entrepreneurs will also need
to be committed, persistent, and flexible to the evolving online marketplace.

Tips For Aspiring Online Entrepreneurs

  • Learn From Others People Failures

Rather than flattering the small percentage of online businesses that grow to become successful, study those that end up failing.

This research would greatly increase your chances of success, because most companies have made common mistakes that have led to their downfall. Having the humility to learn from the mistakes of others before making them yourself is the secret to success.

  • You Have To Have The Nerve For It

If you’re not patient enough you should not be an online entrepreneur. It takes time to make it in the internet business. Only one out of five or worse, one out of ten will succeed.

If you aren’t willing to invest time into learning new skills, you most likely don’t have the drive to make it. If you can’t wait patiently for your very own success story until it happens – and be ready, you’ll be disappointed many times on the way to success. So free yourself while you can.

  • Make Sure This Is What You Want

Online Entrepreneurship requires so much hard work, it is vital to ensure you’re
following the right path.

If this is something you really want, then think long term, and be persistent. The huge majority of great online entrepreneurs failed multiple times before they finally found the online business idea that took off and brought them success.

  •  Don’t Forget To Be Passionate

Successful online entrepreneurs are driven above all by a need for achievement and the desire to make a meaningful difference. The most important traits are passion and persistence, but these must not be confused with arrogance and stubbornness.

  • Be Prepared To Do Lots Of Research

And I mean lots of it. Not “Google it” type of research that gives you predictable results. I mean careful, profound research that will show you niches you never thought about in the first place. You can build your online reputation around these crazy, unbelievable, bizarre, different, odd, funny and popular… topics. Your audience will love it.

  • Be Sure To Really Know Your Niche

Do you know what’s hot on the market? If you do, do you know how to twist it originally to stand out from the crowd? Remember, internet users are spoiled they seek authenticity and punish the lack of it

  • Learn How To Reach Out To Your Audience

It’s not how you think you should reach out; its how your audience expects you to get in touch. Once you find out what your audience is after, you should come up with content on a regular
basis.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to discourage you. I just want to put things into perspective. There is light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to find it for yourself.

  • Solving Problems Should Be The Priority Online

Entrepreneurs should always be in search of problems to solve and not the other way around. In other words, they should not start with a solution looking for a problem.

  • Get Advice From Those Who Have Done It Already

Online business owners and/or entrepreneurs need to find mentors who are successful, in addition to reading books, networking with people they admire and looking into great education programs to help them throughout the process.

  1. My belief is now being affirmed as I read blogs like this on the entrepreneurial venture.

Because I encountered first scammers that say there is a system that generates money easily I carried this as I start to work on my sites. I always expect and so eager to see money day after day as I open my websites.

But I am now gradually convinced that online entrepreneurship is not easy and it does not immediate. I agree with you that it is a longterm business and you have to invest time, resources while you learn the skills.

    1. Jamie Clay says:

I had to learn it the hard way too! It is something that takes time and consistency! Thanks for commenting!

  2. Great article! I am also one of the 65% of employees who’d rather be an entrepreneur than work for someone else. I want to be my own boss and control my own schedule. I hate having to answer to someone else and always fear losing my job.

Good point. I agree, entrepreneurship is a mindset. An entrepreneur is determined to reach their goals no matter what it takes. They plan and act.

I’ve been an online entrepreneur for almost a year now and am committed to seeing my goals accomplished. It takes hard work and lots of time, but it’s worth it.

Thank you for the great advice and encouragement.

  3. If only I would have read this when I first started the entrepreneur journey! Great information.

Personally, I always had a hard time getting paid hourly, knowing that no matter how hard I work, my next raise was dependent on the next guy up on the corporate ladder leaving, getting fired, or promoted.

Being an online entrepreneur allows you to set your own income and it’s totally dependent on how hard you are willing to work.

I also like your advice about putting in the hard work and making sure you do some research on your niche, both of which are vital to online success! Great post!
