The Importance of Website Development in Today’s World

the importance of website developmentThe features of developing your cyberspace footprint for the internet marketplace, should be the development of a website.

This is the headquarters of all your digital marketing efforts and can be the central focus for your other marketing plans.

Knowing the importance of website development in today’s world will lead to success online as an online entrepreneur.

It can be used as an all inclusive entrance for information relating directly to your business and any other marketing initiatives that can link back to it.

The Importance of A Website

If you have a business and don’t have a website, you are probably losing a number of great opportunities for your business.

Web development is a broad term for the work involved in developing a web site for the Internet (World Wide Web) or an intranet (a private network). Web development can range from developing the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web-based internet applications (or just ‘web apps’) electronic businesses, and social network services.

website itself can be used to accomplish many different marketing strategies to help your business grow.

Living in the digital world, a website is now a necessity for a business, big or small online or offline.

Your website will be the center of your company`s or brands online presence; through it, you advertise your business around the internet on social networking sites, forums and through pay-per- click advertising programs.

Increasing visibility is one major factor that makes having a website important.  Another important reason why having a website to represent your business is important is to give you credibility.

Today, more and more consumers use the internet to search for the products or services they need. Your small business will gain credibility by having a website. Without one, potential customers will go to your competitors that do.

A website will not only give you credibility but it will also help to give the impression that your company/brand is bigger and more successful than it may actually be. One of the great things about the internet is that the size of your company does not really matter.

This is a big part of the reason that a website is even more important for a small business than a big one, it tends to level the playing field.

Websites are also available and accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Because of this, your customers and potential customers can visit your site for support or information about new and upcoming products and services whenever it is convenient for them.

Your website will act as an invaluable and always-available resource for information which would otherwise only be accessible during your company`s or brands business hours.

A website with an online shop can provide a dramatic boost in sales. The bottom line is, it is very important for every business to have a website.

There are a lot of misconceptions about website development and building your own website that need to be put to rest.

The Misconceptions of Web Development

For whatever reason – and there are plenty of business owners that have misguided ideas and beliefs about the web development industry, more specifically, about if it is necessary to even have one!

3 Misconceptions Of Website Development

Social Media Has Replaced Websites

This is one misconception that you hear frequently. “I don’t need a website, I have a Facebook account”. Unfortunately, there are instances where a Facebook account cannot be supported and vice versa by a website you own.

Besides the philosophical discussion on the use of different mediums to catch different types of users, a Facebook or any other social media account does not have the authority and diversity that a website you own can provide.

Also, these are platforms and businesses that can enforce terms and limitations on your communication with your prospective client.

Own the space and present your brand on your own terms. Attract these potential clients from all your social media accounts back to your own branded home.

I Cannot Afford A Website

The days of high-flying, $10,000 websites has passed. Unless you are an online, large ecommerce company, the likes of eBay or Amazon, even the most expensive shopping cart commerce site should only ring in around $5000, with a professionally established website development firm.

Even this price tag can most likely be cut in half with some knowledge of websites and the local coding community in your area. Most small businesses require a 5-10 page website that will act as an online brand manager and information provider directly for your business.

It does need to engage your potential clients with appropriate content and design, but it does not need to be extremely complex.

Many website development companies can provide a professional solution for less than $1000.

Using a template solution could cost even half of that, so consider using a service like for an even larger savings.

The Upkeep Costs Are Too Expensive

By having a ‘Content Management System’ (CMS) installed on your website or by using a CMS website development platform like WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, you can control the content on your website easily and without paying monthly maintenance fees.

WordPress websites are very well developed and the most user-friendly for technically challenged individuals. The only other long term upkeep costs include monthly hosting and annual domain name renewal.

These costs can easily be kept under $100 with the right provider. You can even purchase templates that can be integrated into these CMS systems providing a great way to get a well developed site with CMS ability.

The Importance Of Ownership In A Domain

I want to discuss something very important to your business Domains, It’s Your Piece of Virtual Real Estate.

At this point, you are likely using a free website from one of these free website platforms. These domains can rank, but something that you might want to consider moving forward is owning your own “virtual real estate” or domain.

Having your own .com, .org, or .net domain carries some real incentives. These are as follows:

  • An Asset You Own. When you purchase a domain, you own it. Nobody else can come take it from you. In the same way that we own (and I will be purchasing another domain in this lesson), you will own your very own domain. You are also in full control of every aspect of your domain.
  • Domains Increase in Value. As you build out your website and your domain, it will increase in value just like any real estate asset.
  • They Rank Better. Having your own domain will lead to better rankings in Google, Bing & Yahoo which own 99% of all searches online. This is a big deal.

These are just three of the main reasons and for the price of owning your very own domain, it is well worth it.

The Full Impact Of Web Design

In a blog post by Forbes blogger, Drew Hendricks, on understanding the importance of a good website design was discussed.

Web design is one of the most important features of your online presence. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to pay very expensive amounts of money for top-tier designers, but rather that you need to find a style of web design that works for your business.

Building a website is not the financially and time demanding task that it once was. Templates with CMS options provide great value and ease of use, while boutique website firms can offer great pricing to the eager shopper.

Make a place for your brand that is solely owned by you. This enables a place for every communication to terminate at a space that is controlled by you and you can present your message unhindered by any other ads, social games or personal message windows getting in the way.

The more professional your website is the more advantages you can gain.

The Advantages of Having a Website

Below are just a few of the advantages and benefits of having a website for your business.

A website is more environmental friendly when it comes to advertising and marketing. There are lots of ways to advertise your products or services through the internet. One example is Facebook ads, an advertising feature offered through Facebook. Another one is called SEO.  This is a major advantage for your business. Having a good SEO service provider can boost the ranking of your website which quickly results in increased sales and higher profits.

Less Expensive
Have you ever advertised your business through a variety of methods such as printed media, radio, television or by other means? It’s expensive!
Investing in advertising is necessary, but it takes a lot of money. Having a website will make promoting your company less expensive. Many versions of offline advertising available on the internet are sometimes free.

Having a website will be more convenient for your customers and leads. Make it easy for your customers to purchase from you! Many will be more likely to visit your website, rather than driving a car to your physical location and browsing for your products. From a customer’s point of view, it’s better for them if they don’t have to ask anything. They can just find what they’re looking for on your online site.

Increased Customers
Most businesses have local popularity, but what about potential customers outside their city?  A website can help you generate more customers. Not just outside your city, but worldwide. The internet offers a global community. With a website, your business will be visible around the world.

Have you ever experienced having to turn customers away because it’s closing time? Well, you don’t have to close the doors of your website.  An online
site can be visited any time of the day or night. People will look to your site instead of going to your shop because it is more accessible. Just make sure to post enough information about your products and services.

Access to Info
Did you know that if you own a website, you can actually track everything that is happening on it? You can even look for information that will tell you
how many people visited your site, or how many people messaged or emailed you. You can access the progress of your website and view all its pages. You can even make an update anytime, making it much less expensive than printed material.

Smart business owners create a blog page for their company. Having a blog to post fresh content will keep your website attractive and fresh. The same as having fresh products and services to offer.

Links are very important to viral marketing. If you have many sites linking to you, it is like spreading the word about your company all around the
world. If you have a good website with good content related to information, products or services, people are more likely to link your website to theirs. This means they recognize your website as valuable.

Better Relationships with Customers
Having a website can build better relationships with your customers. You can send messages instantly to your customers through email. Also, your
customers can review your products online and can also leave feedback for you and your business. It’s best to always send your customer a message. This is essential for building a good relationship with them.

Increase Sales
As a business owner, more visitors leads to more potential sales. That’s how your website will help you. You can drive more people to your site by consistently updating and promoting the contents of your site. The more informative your site is, the greater the possibility of increasing your sales.

A website gives you the opportunity to prove your credibility. You have to tell your customers why you deserve their trust through your website. This can earn positive feedback for your service and products. Also, your website serves as a place for a potential investor to explore what your business is about and what it can do in the future.

Long Term Clients
What do you think is the difference between client and a customer? Well, a customer is the one who walks in and buys something and that’s it. A client is your regular customer. He is buying your products or services daily or contractually. Having a website gives you a chance to gain more clients that can help your business grow.

These are just a few of the advantages and benefits of creating a website for your business.

  1. I am new to providing comments about other sites but here goes. Very well written content. I did not detect grammar or spelling issues which is a personal issue with me. I had a few problems however with some of the links, they did not follow through. Could be at my end but not sure so you might want to check on that. Good use of images and content very informative. I hope I can do as well when mine is done. I have been using Grammarly from google and it is very helpful for me.
